Praise for this book

Alan Crawford’s Really Odd Short Stories is exactly what the title promises odd, quirky, and delightfully unpredictable. Each of the 24 stories is like a quick detour into a strange little world, where the rules of reality don’t always apply but the characters feel surprisingly real.

What I enjoyed most was the variety. Some stories are darkly humorous, others are unsettling in that “did I really just read that?” kind of way, and a few left me laughing at their absurdity. The brevity works in Crawford’s favor, he doesn’t waste words, and every story gets straight to the point while still leaving enough to chew on afterward.

A couple of the tales were so bizarre they almost lost me, but even then, I found myself thinking about them later, which says something about their staying power. My favorites were the ones where the weirdness crept up slowly, starting from something ordinary and twisting into the unexpected.

This isn’t a collection for someone looking for neat, traditional storytelling. But if you like fiction that pokes at the edges of normal, makes you laugh in one breath and squirm in the next, you’ll find plenty to enjoy here. It’s the kind of book you can dip into between things, but I’ll admit I binged several stories in a row because I kept wanting to see what odd corner Crawford’s imagination would wander into next.

Overall, Really Odd Short Stories is strange in the best way—offbeat, clever, and memorable.
